The Shabla lighthouse, with its unusually cheerful red and white stripes, stands proudly at Cape Shabla – the most eastern point of Bulgaria. It is the oldest lighthouse on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, and it is the oldest authentic operating lighthouse on the Balkans, with the tallest tower, rising to 32 meters in height. A few years ago this unique landmark turned 150 years.
Designed as a reduced copy of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world – the Pharos lighthouse, it boasts 132 steps leading to its halogen projector which keeps an everlasting watch safeguarding the path of ships. Its lightning rod has a gilded peak.
